Saturday news: Hagel gone, go bruins

Saturday is always a slow news day for political junkies, inevitably forcing me to find a new way to procrastinate from LSAT studying. (It's sad when you're reduced to sitting there hitting "refresh" on Google Reader). Nonetheless, a few important/interesting links worth reading...

Hagel's out- Could our outlook on the Senate be any better? Legit shot at not one, but TWO Democratic Senators from Nebraska in a years time.

Dodd calls for embargo on Cuba- yeah, I mean, it's "leadership" on an important issue, I guess, (and he's right) but not a terribly risky position in the primary. But kiss Florida goodbye if he's the nominee.

The OO (Obama and Oprah, make that up myself) fundraiser finally went down... if that's not A-list, I dont know what is.

While we're on Obama, only fair to point you to this article. I don't think its particularly damaging or unfair, just points out the realities of politics to me. Until we publicly fund campaigns, I have trouble criticizing people for raising money from people who believe in them.

And for anyone who wasn't there, we beat BYU in typical UCLA closer-than-it-should-have-been fashion, but a win is a win. Looked great in the first half, terrible in the 2nd. D came up with big plays though, bailing out Olsen and the offense. Olsen and co have to improve if we want a shot at anything serious this year.

Go bruins. And Bob Kerrey.

Talk shit as I do about Obama (and Lord knows I do), I don't fault him for hanging out with Oprah and making bank.

That's just the way the game is played nowadays, and anyone who tries to run against that by not participating in it doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of geting elected and having a chance to change the policy.

Wow, long sentence.

As for thinking that what Dodd says will cost us Florida if he's the nominee, quite a few Kossacks all respond with various reasons as to why that idea is, ah, misguided. Mostly being the Cubans who would be upset at this are already the most loyal of Republicans who would never consider voting for a Democrat anyway.
