Al Gore's electricity bill heats up blogosphere

The Vice President's yearly average power consumption came to 221,000-kWh. That's nearly $1,400/month.

The article states that this is about 20 times the amount of power the average American uses. Bear in mind, he has a 20 room house too. I hate it when people (you know who I'm talking about) try to make a whole bunch of something out of a whole bunch of nothing.

Bush Showcases Plug-In Electric Cars

I love these new technologies, but I find it amusing that the President is putting these on display. If you watch the video, you can see the look of frustration on his face when he promises to reduce fuel consumption.

Open Thread: So Lets Talk About This Hillary/Obama Thing

So all this drama today over the NYT interview with David Geffen (huge UCLA donor btw) is getting bigger and bigger. No need to ask me where I stand on this thing. But with that said, it appears as bloggers and the Obama crowd are gonna go to bed (probably on the 1.3 million they raised last night) with a smile on their face.

The headline over at HuffingtonPost.com reads "Hillary Campaign Loses Its Cool". Now I know Arianna isn't a big fan of good ole' Hill (can I call her that?), but that is one of the most visited liberal blogs on the internet, and reading about all the back and forth that went on today with the campaigns, if I was an objective observer (obviously I'm not) I would say Obama's camp looks like they are on top of their game, and Clinton's need to do some brushing up. All this being said this raises a ton of questions;

-Is this too early for this stuff to go on?
-Should this go on at all in the primary?
-Whose wrong here?
-Does Obama get a free ride from the media (when they aren't mixing him up with Osama, or telling us he was attended a terrorist training camp)?
-Does Geffen have a point? After all, he hasn't always thought of the Clintons like this.
-Why is Aria so damn good looking?

K, people I want some answers and discussion on this one....

It's About Time

What took so long?
Finally, Stephen Colbert ice cream.
Aren't you happy you read the BD blog? The MSM wouldn't ever tell you about this.

"I'm not afraid to say it. Dessert has a well-known liberal agenda," Colbert said in a statement. "What I hope to do with this ice cream is bring some balance back to the freezer case."

The Artificial Obama Controversey

When I first read Kyle's post this evening, I too was a little saddened that Barack Obama decided against participating in the first Democratic Candidates Debate. I clicked on the link to read more about the story and it took me to a blog called Political Insider. The story suggested that this decision by the Obama campaign might be a true-sign of his inexperience. Maybe Obama is simply not up to the task of debating Hillary Clinton just yet. After all, if Obama were smashed this early in a debate with Clinton, he might lose a lot of potential donors.

Obviously, I found this analysis a little odd. I thought to myself, "Obama graduated from Columbia and then earned a law degree from Harvard. He's a probably one of the brightest minds in U.S. politics right now. Why would he be afraid of debating another Democratic heavyweight like Hillary Clinton?"

So, I scoured the web for more details. And what I found out is pretty interesting. When I checked the National Journal's Hotline, I found out that Obama isn't skipping a debate; he's actually skipping a candidates forum hosted by AFSCME. Though other candidates will be attending the event, it is inaccurate to call it a debate because none of them will be on stage at the same time. Each candidate will give a little speech and that's it.

Then why in hell have these rumors been flying around? Where do they come from? The Republican National Committe, of course! Hotline reports that the RNC sent out a press release with subheadings that include "Forum Flight Reinforces Obama's Tight Bubble" and "Suspicions are Growing that Obama Doesn't Have Much to Say."

Hotline also reports that this event is pretty much a waste of time for every candidate except Clinton. Given the fact that AFSCME President Gerald McEntee and the Clintons are close friends, it's hard to see AFSCME's endorsement going to anyone else.

There is a lot to learn from this incident. Whether you support Clinton or Obama, Richardson or Vilsack, Edwards or Biden, all Democrats need to be on the look out for opposition attacks like this one. By misrepresenting the facts, the Republican Party was able to make one of our brightest stars look like a timid rookie. Obama will not be the only candidate subject to these kind of attacks. Clinton, Edwards, and any other candidate who gains the spotlight will also have to brave these cheapshots. Our job is to make sure that we respond to these attacks as quickly as possible. Our country can't afford to let the Republican Party define another great candidate for president in their terms.

Instead of worrying about Obama's credentials today, everyone should celebrate that a leader like him has officially entered the race for president.

Checkout the Hotline post. Scroll down the page, you'll find it.

No Values. The Evil Empire Strikes Again.

The LA Times reports that U$C football could be in trouble again. Apparently, Coach Carroll is using some rather shady tactics to win star recruits.

The Evil Empire is currently after the soul of Lousiana high school football star Joe McKnight. At a recent news conference, reporters asked McKnight about the Reggie Bush controversey that might result in NCAA sanctions for the University of Spoiled Children. McKnight replied that a phone call with Coach Carroll and Bush put his mind at ease about the matter. As it turns out, though, it is against NCAA rules for former players to participate in the recruitment process. Oops!

Of course, now Carroll and McKnight said the phone call never happened. Right...

You Know, Obama Used to be a State Senator

In 2004, Barack Obama was suddenly thrown on the national stage. We all loved him, but few Americans knew where he came from. If you don't know by now, Obama was an Illinois State Senator before he was the "rockstar" of the Democratic Party.

Yesterday, the Washington Post ran an interesting article about Obama's record in the Illinois State Senate. Ch-ch-check it out here.

Member Spotlight: Issue 1

Bruin Democrats Member Spotlight is a special feature on our Blog that lets the general public get to know our club members, one at a time.

Today, meet Brick Christensen, a 1st Year History Major / Classics Minor!

"I decided to join Bruin Democrats because I had always wanted to join a school-based political party. My high school did not have Democrat/Republican clubs and was not very politically active. One day I'd personally like to run for politics and so I felt that BruinDemocrats could help me to achieve that goal. Plus, it's a lot of fun and I know a lot of people that are in it!

My favorite Bruin Dems activity thus far had to be the Election Night 2006 Party. Not only did the Democrats sweep back into power, we also had a great night at Gabe's [Bruin Democrats’ President]!

If I was "King for a day", I'd want to travel all over my "kingdom", as in America. I'd want to see how the people are living and ask them what it's like to try and understand what they are going through. I think that the current lack of understanding of the plight of the common people is a big problem for America's leadership right now.

The coolest thing I've done at UCLA has been a member of the UCLA Marching Band. I'll never forget winning the SC game and being on the field after time expired, looking up at the crowd and the excitement at the Rose Bowl. It was an incredible night and something I'll remember for as long as I'm a Bruin fan (forever)."

"I Know A Lot More Now Than I Did In 2004"

Edwards on MTP today.

I really like when he steps out of his campaigner mentality, like in the second clip where he's talking about pocket book economics. Either way he's dreamy. Others may disagree.

NYT article focusing on Edwards tomorrow.

Is it just me or does he kinda sound like Curtis?

Better Late Than Never

Al Gore may announce '08 Presidential bid after all. 2000 campaign manager Donna Brazile said he might do it at the Academy Awards.

Why Should This Guy Be Senator Or Governor?

I don't care if you're in love with him or how good looking he is. Gavin Newsom has some bad judgement man. I have to be honest, I would probably always question the working class leadership credentials of a guy who made millions selling wine in the Napa Valley.

But he just makes it so easy to look at him suspiciously. There was the time he dated a 20 year old girl who tended to drink at events, and now he admits to an affair with his best friend/campaign manager. I myself may not subscribe to the theory, but I know many Democrats who felt he served up the gay marriege issue right in time for the 2004 elections. Good intentions? Yes. Bad timing? You decide.

Debra Saunders inks a good column on the "Boy Mayor".

An Inarticulate Kickoff Indeed

Eugene Robinson, an Op-ed columnist for the Washington Post, poses some very interesting questions about what white people mean when they describe Senator Barack Obama as "articulate." Check it out.
